Cruise Wellington Classic Tour Itinerary

Note: available for parties of 6-8 guests only. We prefer not to take part bookings or pencil bookings as we do not like to disappoint if we have to cancel the tour if there is not a minimum of 6 guests.

Cruise Wellington Classic covers the most popular attractions in the city for guests to explore and enjoy. Each attraction is a well-loved location in the city and when ships are in the city, they can be busy. We will do our best to avoid the crowds and you won't be standing in long queues.

The itinerary below shows the attractions we cover although the order may change on the day, dependent upon crowds and the weather. We like to show you Wellington in comfort.

The complete tour cost (including Cable Car ride) is $70 NZD per person, one flat rate for all ages. The tour duration is approximately 2 hours 45 minutes.
Restricted to bookings of minimum 6 guests, and a maximum of 8 guests per tour.

At the designated time on your booking confirmation we will greet you directly as you leave the terminal entrance.

Parliament Grounds
Short visit to Parliament grounds to see the architecture of the famous Beehive and key Parliamentary buildings. Photo stop, and a brief commentary given.

bullet Lady Norwood Rose Gardens - Botanic Garden
 

Lady Norwood Rose Garden

The Lady Norwood Rose Garden is considered the jewel in the crown of the Botanic Gardens by many. It also includes the spectacular Begonia House.

Mount Victoria
You'll love the 360 degree views from Mt Victoria's lookout. You'll hear about Wellington's city landmarks, unique geographical features and you might get a puff of wind too!

Wellington Cable Car
Opened in 1902, Wellington's remarkable funicular links the elegant suburb of Kelburn to the city. We include a one way journey on the Cable Car for our guests, with time for photos of the city from the top at Kelburn.

Te Papa Museum

 

Te Papa Museum

The final stop on our tour is at the entrance of Te Papa Museum our national museum, the country's treasure trove. Entry is free to Te Papa Museum although a donation box is at the entrance.

The tour does not include time at the musuem, but guests are welcome to leave the tour here and explore the museum on their own. Those guests will need to return to the ship themselves, and we provide maps to assist.

If you decide not to visit the musuem, you will be returned to the ship approximately 2.75 hours after the tour commences.

Welington Wander & A Trio Of Beer

Wellington Wander & A Trio Of Beer is a relaxed but informative tour through the heart of the city. It has been designed for guests who wish to enjoy free time in the city in the morning, or at Te Papa Museum, and then meet me in the early afternoon for your Wellington Wander & A Trio Of Beer. The port provides guests with a map clearly showing the location of Te Papa Museum where we meet.

Enjoy a stroll to Civic Square, discover the waterfront and its history, immerse yourself in the Lambton Quarter, the heart of the central business district, and then enjoy a ride on the famous Cable Car. After that famed photo opp at the top, take the ride back down to finish off at a fine local bar for a trio of beer tasters of New Zealand brewed craft beer. Wellington is the craft beer capital and you will also be provided with tasting notes.

The complete tour cost (including Cable Car ride and beer) is $70 NZD per person, one flat rate for all ages. Please note, guests under 18 years of age will be restricted to a non-alcoholic soft drink or juice. Also guests over 18 may substitute the beer for one glass of house red or white wine, or a non-alcoholic soft drink or juice.

The tour duration is approximately 2.5 hours.
Restricted to 10 lucky guests only (minimum booking 2 guests).

Please note: this tour is a walking tour and there is also one flight of stairs, so this tour is not recommended for those who are unable to manage stairs or walking the distances as indicated below.

Te Papa Museum

At the designated time on your booking confirmation I will greet you at then entrance to the Te Papa Museum Store. It is located just beside the entrance doors to the museum, on the ground floor.

Waterfront & Civic Square
I consider the waterfront to the be the most beautiful part of Wellington city. The traverse across the City to Sea bridge brings us to the very photogenic Civic Square.
Walking time from Te Papa Museum approximately 15-20 minutes


bullet Central Business District
The business quarter of Wellington is home to our business community along with our stylish retailers including the famous Old Bank Arcade. The history of Wellington's earthquake of 1855 is retold and the changes it made to the city are clear to see when we visit Plimmers Ark.

Everybody loves Wellington's Cable Car!

Opened in 1902, Wellington's remarkable funicular links the elegant suburb of Kelburn to the city. We include a round-trip journey on the Cable Car, with time for photos of the city from the top at Kelburn.

Lambton Quay
After we return to the city we take a walk down Lambton Quay oru most famous street, which used to be the beach prior to 1855. We will see our flagship stores and I will be sure to point out the cruise ship shuttle stop just as we arrive at our final venue.

A Trio Of Beer

 

A Trio Of Beer

Just secretly, I am passionate about craft beer. The final stop on our tour is at a selected bar dedicated to excellence in New Zealand craft beer. Not only will you try three great beers, but you'll hear about the blossoming craft beer industry in New Zealand, a land where we grow world-class hops. Tasting notes are provided for each of the three very different beer styles.

This tour is designed to finish at least 2 hours in advance of the sailing time of your ship. Also, the bar selected will be a short walk from the cruise ship shuttle stop so that you will have no concerns about returning to the ship in good time. Please note though, it is your responsibility to return to the ship on time.
